Living Wisdom Ayurveda is an accumulation of almost 20 years of working with Plant Medicines from both modern and traditional herbalists around the world.
Our goal is to blend the traditional healing system of India with the best of the Western natural health practices to bring you the wealth of good health in a simple, self-empowering and easy to apply manner.
Living Wisdom Ayurveda began in the garden and kitchen of a herbalist, healer and Ayurvedic practitioner who grew, processed and created her own herbal remedies. She shared the value of Ayurvedic wisdom and treatments as an alternative path to the ever-increasing expense and inappropriate use of allopathic medicines. To empower individuals in their own health and that of their families and communities, she created her own herbal blends from local wild-crafted and organically grown plants.
From these simple beginnings as a home-based, grassroots initiative into a company which now supplies certified organic, wild-crafted and pesticide-free formulas to major detox centres, retailers and community health organizations internationally. Our evolution is a result of the growing demand for quality blended herbal remedies that are easily accessible and internationally available to those who are profoundly seeking to reclaim health and healing in their own hands and homes.
Ayurveda has so much more to offer than herbal remedies and we encourage you to explore our developing website – a wealth of Ayurvedic insights, practices & healing home therapies.
Personal consultations are also available to better understand your own intricate body-mind ecosystem.
Uma Devi began her journey to understand true health from an early age, as she suffered from eczema as a child and used pharmaceutical medications for many years which did not resolve the problem. She responded at age 16 to a casual comment that the skin condition could be an allergic reaction to some foods, cut out dairy and wheat and got results. Having realised the vital role of food as medicine through her own experience and intuition, she studied physical health independently whilst also studying Psychology at University. This brought her closer to the Eastern views to realise that mind, body and soul cannot be separated for healing to be effective, and she created her own path upon graduating, to discover the nature of true healing.
This journey brought her to explore yoga and meditation, learning herbs and wisdom from Kahunas in Hawaii, Shamans in Central America, and Elder herbalists and Midwives in California. Being initiated into Reiki at the young age of 21 and a Reiki Master by 27, she practised various modalities of healing for her own personal health and wellness, as well as in guiding and working with others. She experimented with detox and natural fasting and, twice in her life, she lived for 6 weeks with no food, subsisting only on water.
She studied herbalism, alternative medicine and detox, self-studying with herbal books and learning from healers around the world. She graduated from the California College of Ayurveda in 2006, advancing her training by apprenticing with a renowned ayurvedic practitioner and tongue and pulse master, Dr Mary Jo Cravatta. Furthering studies took her to India to learn Pancha Karma, the ayurvedic form of Detoxing, as well as deepen her love for the eastern plants.
Having trained from early twenties in the Taoist practices, Uma developed a love for the importance of Chi Nei Tsang – a form of Taoist deep, internal organ massage and readily applied it to Western detox practices and Ayurveda.
She has dedicated her life to understand her own path of health and to inspire others to attune to their own natural healing abilities. She currently teaches and practises Reiki, Chi Nei Tsang and Ayurveda and continues to retreat into silence to India every year for deepening her personal practice.
